Ingredients
300 g Capital Smokies
1 sheet Frozen puff pastry
1 Egg
- Optional toppings:
Toasted sesame seeds
Shredded cheddar cheese
- Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce:
2 tbsp Honey
1 tbsp Dijon mustard
1 tbsp Yellow mustard
- Honey Butter:
2 tbsp Honey
1 tbsp Melted butter
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Slice the Capital smokies into bite-sized pieces. Set aside.
- Roll out the puff pastry and cut into strips slightly smaller than the length of each smoky.
- Wrap each smokie with a strip of puff pastry, overlapping the edges slightly. Use a dab of egg wash to seal the edges.
- Place each wrapped smoky seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
- Brush the tops of the puff pastry with the egg wash for a golden finish. Optionally add toppings to differentiate flavors:
- Sprinkle sesame seeds on jalapeno cheddar smokies.
- Add shredded cheddar cheese on cheddar smokies.
- Leave Bavarian smokies plain or customize as desired.
- Bake the wrapped smokies in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.
- Once the pigs in blankets are baked, let them cool slightly on the baking sheet for a few minutes.
- Brush smokies with the honey butter for added sweetness and shine.
- Dipping Sauce:
- Combine honey, Dijon mustard, and yellow mustard in a small bowl. Stir until smooth. Adjust sweetness or tanginess to taste.
- Optional Honey Butter:
- Mix honey and melted butter in a bowl. Set aside for brushing.
